Puppy Dog Tails...BBTB Challenge & BUG BLOG HOP

Some very fun and exciting news going on over at the Bitten By The Bug site...we are having our first BUG BLOG HOP in which some of the design team members are giving away some yummy Blog Candy, like myself this week. This is our 1st hop and there will be more to come!

So 1st I will show you what I did for challenge, which was to use ANY cut from the Doodlecharms cartridge BUT using the border feature. You should go over to the BBTB site and see all the wonderful things that the other DT members did.

I decided to use the cute puppy face and make a card for my nephew for his Baptism that was held this past Sunday.

I kind of made it into a shaped card with the 1st puppy face and welded the words to it.

I used the Cuttin' Up cartridge for the words:

Isn't he a cutie (although not anywhere near as cute as my nephew):

I just love these frogs I cut out from some PP from Cloud9:

With the envie:

And I just had to add a good amount of that so cute PP for the flap of the envie:

BUT here's the real cutie! At 10 weeks old and only getting cuter!

Now for the really cool thing...the BUG BLOG HOP...here is the candy that I'm giving away:

-Self-adhering stamps by Inque Boutique see d's, it's a set of 7 stamps and comes with a stamping mat
-Colorbox's Chianti (Red) Pigment Ink
-Stampendous Embossing Powder - Clear Transparent
-Best Occasions Vellum Quote Romance Pack
-Sweet Treat Ribbon

I'll be using random.org to pick the winner...all you have to do is leave me a comment on this post and help me out with a problem I can't figure out...I use Herma Dotto's Dispenser using their removable adhesive which I love how easy it is to apply BUT my problem is it's such a pain to clean the edges of the cut image from having little "frays" of the adhesive. So my question to you is what adhesive or more importantly what method do you use to adhere letters/images from one card stock to another card stock without having all the little "frays" show up around the edges?

Once you've done that, I will enter you in the drawing and then you continue on with the hop by going over to Penny Shuberg's blog and see her so very cute project done for the BBTB challenge and also see what she has for Blog Candy to give away!

Please leave your comment to this post by midnight EST Saturday, May 2nd and I'll will announce the winner on Sunday. Thanks!

OH, and if you have the same adhesive problem I have just leave me a comment that you came and visited my site so I can enter you in the drawing. :)

Recipe:
-CS: Bazzill Basics "Iced Cocoa", "Cinnamon Stick", "Safari" & "Mocha Divine" and
The Paper Company "Pastel Pink Texture" & "Navy Blue"
-PP: Cloud9 Design "Sparkle Baby Boy Frogs"
-Fluid Chalk Inks: Colorbox "Rose Coral", "Creamy Brown" and "Chestnut Roan"
-Cricut Carts: Doodlecharms cut at 3" using the border feature and Cuttin' Up cut at 1" using the shadow and cartoon features (welded in CDS).

TFL!!!

Absolutely love your card...what a creative take on the challenge. I'm fairly new to card making, so I'm probably not the best source for info, but I use a Zig pen on a lot of my projects.

How adorable! I'm a new visitor thanks to the blog hop. As for adhesive. When it gets tricky with letters that are too narrow for a tape runner, if they are small enough to fit into my Xyron sticker maker, I run them through that. It seems to work pretty well. As a last resort I will use a fine tip liquid craft glue - Scotch or CTMH Liquid Glass.

Love your card; very creative. I have to different things I do. First, I use a Zig glue pen. But somentimes, if the cut or word is too large, part of it dries before you get the whole thing glued. Also sometimes the cut is just too small. Then is use a Xyron sticker maker. I have the 3-1/2 in one.

Another good hint about applying letters; I use the low tack painters tape (the purple one) to line up my letters backwards on the tape and then apply to page. This works better with adhesive than the glue pen.

Blessings,
Christine

One more thing. Sometimes the the Xyron will use a tape residute but you can scrape it off when it is still of the backing paper!

Christine

I think I have tried every kind of adhesive on the planet...and have the same issues with the "extra" .. so...it seems that I grab my zig 2-way glue pen over and over again...I have to say, sometimes it dries faster than I can apply to the entire surface, but I seem to work it out by reapplying fast to the drying part...I'm an adhesive junkie.

Your puppies on the card are the cutest!! Adorable little boy with such a sweet smile.
I usually use my Xyron for the small size letters and the larger ones I use just regular school gel glue.

Very creative card. I'm fairly new at paper crafting, but I use a xyron sticker maker for my lettering.

Cute project!! EVEN CUTER NEPHEW!! His smile is contagious! I had to get my DH to look at his picture!!!

As for the gluing...I will sometimes use my Xyron, but more often I use my Zig or a fine tip liquid craft glue - like Scotch.

Nikki, such a clever take on this BBTB challenge - love what you did and the look of this shape card! the details are great!

What a cute take on the challenge. Your nephew is a cutie. I don't use herma so can't help on that, but I do use my xyron sticker for small areas.

Very Cute Card, love the papers you used. I use Quickie glue pen by Sukura for letters and small details, it seems to work well because there is no glue oozing out from underneath.

Hi, great blog - thanks for sharing all your work.In answer to your question I use a zig glue pen and find it works well for me.

I just don't know how you come up with this stuff. Wow!!

I use my Xyron. If there are any leftover 'threads', I use an adhesive eraser from
Stampin Up.

Love your project!

Awh Chase is a doll baby! So cute! Your little puppy dog tails card is adorable.

Joyce said...

How sweet(especially the baby).

Nikki said...

I would've never thought to do a card from this. I love what you did and thanks for giving me the idea. A friend used that same paper for a baby album for me and I love it.

To adhere letters/images, I use my Xyron machine. It's so much easier than trimming excess adhesive strips off the edge of the letters/images.

Cute deign, and your are right your little guy is really the true blog candy here! He is a doll!!
For the adhesive: I def use my Xyron! It works great for the small lettering :)

The card and your nephew are cute! My current adhesive is Glue Glider Pro. I haven't used it much yet but it seems to work well. I don't go all the way to the edges. For small detail cricut cuts I use a zig 2-way pen.

DeeDee said...

Ca-ute card this week girlie! Love those puppies! Okay, the adhesive I prefer is to run my letters and such thru my Xyron, but before taking the top layer of plastic off....I use my stylus (using the smallest end)and "draw" around each image or letter...this keeps the little edges from looking all yucky! Hope that helps! HUGS!

Darling card!! Great blog!!
for the adhesive problem.....
the quickest step for me is to use my adhesive eraser.
i love the zig pen but that will leave a shiny mark if i don't stick it down perfectly.
thanks for the chance to win!

your card is just adorable i love it. When i am adhering letters i use the blue 2 way glue pen you can get a walmart. It seems to work fine or i run it thru my xyron but that can get expensive. have a great week.

OMG NIkki! Your card is ADORABLE, but not quite as ADORABLE as that nephew of yours! That smile melts my heart! I'm with DeeDee on the Xyron and drawing around the edges before peeling, but I also somethines use my Zig 2 way glue pen with the fine tip. xxD

Maria said...

Great blog!!!

I will use either my Zig two way glue pen or my Quickie glue pen.
I like the quickie glue pen for real narrow or small cuts.
Hope this helps.

Your first puppy creation is way too cute as is the picture of the little fellow.

Staci said...

What a cute card and even cuter nephew you have. I use a Zig fine ball point pen, small Xyron X (2 inches) and the big Xyron X (5 inches) I figure with all that I am bound to get it to stick somehow.

Teresa said...

What a cutie! The card is gorgeous too lol.

Zig pen here too, no messing with it, and if lettering is tiny, it still gets onto the right bit of the card and a pair of tweezers holds and positions it! Sorted!

I am a newbie to your blog but am very impressed with your cards and ideas. I love the one for this weeks challenge. Could you do one for a baby girl? lol. I am hopping around in hopes of winning someone's candy and to see all the places I haven't been before.

Love your puppy dog tails! I use my X Xyron for small letters and one of those zig glue pens for bigger ones. In fact, my hermafix ones I finally through out because the tape kept getting wrapped around itself. I use tombow now for pictures where you keep popping in the new one and so it doesn't get all gunked up!

Heidi said...

Ok so that babys IS adorable! LOL. What a cute smile! I love teh way you used the dogs and especially how you put the frogs on the middle dog...that's one of those things that I would have never thought of. I love to get ideas from others and yours turned out so cute! (I've never used those hermafix...I use the x xryon, the zip glue pens, and of course my ATG gun for my "sticky" needs.)

Thanks for sharing!
Heidi

Hi! I am so excited to use my PP cart! I received it as a Christmas gift but haven't been inspired to use it until tonight! Thank you! As far as adhesive goes, I use a fine tip permanent adhesive pen from Michaels. I like it because it's one of those that goes on blue then changes to white as it dries and it adheres really well. Some are too runny and don't hold well. Good luck!

I hate it when the adhesive gets all over the wrong side of the project! I have that problem with my Xyron! I've found that my Creative Memories "pick-up" square works wonderful for ahesive "boogers" (as my 5 year old calls them) or a white artist's eraser. Currently my favorite ahesive is the Zig 2-way pen!

Just call me G said...

Your card is amazingly cute but not as cute as your nephew as you say... he's adorable..

I use tombow and get sticky fingers whilst doing it.!!

Off to Pennys blog now

Happy Crafting

Hi, I love the puppy dog tails and frogs card. So clever and talented you are. And that little Chase....what a cutie Patootie. I wish the prize could be the chance to hold him for about two hours while sitting in a rocking chair!! For tiny letters, I go to my baby Xyron and then to a Tombo Glue Pen. Thanks for the chance at your candy. Linda S. in NE

Hi Nikki!

Super cute BBTB challenge project. I love seeing what all of you create... you give me great ideas!

Try using the Xyron sticker runner. I have the small one and the medium one... use them both and love them! It turns anything in to a sticker. :)

Thanks for all you do!

Blessings,
Debbie

What cute card! Looks like a lot of work but oh so worth it.

I also like to use the Xyron sticker runner, especially nice for those letters and small pieces.
I use one of those rubber adhesive removers to wipe away excess adhesive.

Leah said...

What a cute idea for card...love it. I would say that I tend to use my zig pen.

AUsome mom said...

Cute, cute card!! For the adhesive, if I have any 'frays' I just catch it with a toothpick and pull it off. Even with my Xyron, I still get some adhesive that wants to hang around!
Great blog, by the way~~
